The Family Yoga Centre in Edmonton follows the teachings of BKS Iyengar www.bksiyengar.com.

Alignment based approach

An Iyengar yoga class should leave you feeling physically challenged, mentally stimulated and calm. However with its strong emphasis on alignment of the body you will be in good hands along the way.
The asanas practiced in class will vary from class to class depending on the focus or theme of the course. Asanas are sequenced in order to gradually open the body , deepen awareness of your body and quieten your mind.
This is Meditation in Action.

Iyengar yoga spans the continuum of practices, from the most gently meditative and relaxing postures through varying degrees of intensity to the most vigorous practices of extended holdings and sequenced jumpings. It is a yoga method for students who want an effective, safe, physical discipline that has not lost its ancient roots. Our classes offer something for everyone. Whether you are a beginner or training to be an instructor you’ll find a class level that suits you.
